Nikki Sapp Spoelstra and Erik Spoelstra have been married since 2016, 16 years apart in age. In 2016, she wed NBA Coach Erik Spoelstra and they are contented with their shared life together.
Since 2008, Spoelstra has served as Miami Heat’s head coach. He is one of the NBA’s longest-tenured group coaches and has led his team to five NBA Finals since 2008-09 season; additionally, he won two NBA championships during that span.
Last year, under Spoelstra’s guidance, Miami received the highest seed in the Japanese Convention and made two consecutive appearances in the finals.

Despite their age difference, their union has blossomed; they now have two wonderful boys plus another on the way.

Since their engagement in 2016, Erik and Nikki have been enjoying life as a married couple – they’ve been together since 2013.
They began dating in 2013, and two years later announced their engagement to family and friends.
One year later, on July 21, 2022, they were wed in front of family and friends – celebrating a beautiful life as one unit as husband and wife. Their stories serve as testament to the strength of their bond.
Nikki first met Erik when she joined the group as both a dancer and cheerleader. Nikki started working as a Warmth dancer at 18 years old while still in school; apparently the two began dating when Nikki left to work as director at an art gallery in Hollywood.
Nikki Spo is an independent businesswoman, humanitarian and well-known online personality who advocates for women’s independence and rights.
Additionally, she runs The Know Podcast which entertains her company while raising money for various causes.
Nikki’s show The Know with Nikki Spo aims to highlight successful women’s stories; already mom to two sons and soon expecting another daughter, this podcast started in 2021 by Nikki as a way of honoring successful women around her.
Meet Nikki Sapp Spoelstra’s Children
Nikki and her husband already have two children, Santiago and Dante, who are three and four years old respectively. Last month Nikki confirmed they are expecting their third child – a girl!
Santiago, the oldest child, managed to avoid a life-threatening sickness this past year. After an unexpected intestinal operation, he was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma – a non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Santiago underwent months of counseling before finally being able to raise the bell at Nicklaus Kids’ Hospital in Miami.
Spoelstra skipped a game in March when he learned one of his sons was having surgery, though neither the Heat nor their head coach offered any further details at that time.
In December this year, Dante Nicholas Spoelstra became the second child of his parents; both are doing well and their father is often seen accompanying them at NBA games and other events.
Despite managing one of the premier NBA teams, Spoelstra still attempts to be involved in his children’s upbringing even if they’re still very young.
Erik Spoelstra: Partner of Nikki Sapp
Erik is the first Filipino-American to hold the position of head coach for an NBA franchise, starting his twelfth season and twenty fifth overall with Miami.
Since he took over as head coach, Miami has enjoyed its fifth highest average season winning share and fourth best postseason winning percentage in NBA history.
From 2001-2008, Spoelstra served as director of scouting and assistant coach for the Miami Heat. During that time, their squad won the NBA Finals in 2006.
He was appointed head coach for 2008-09 season after signing LeBron James and Chris Bosh as free agents in 2010.
Under Spoelstra’s direction, the Warmth made four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals between 2011-2014, winning championships in 2012 and 2013. For a sixth time, he served as top coach on an NBA Finals in 2020.
Erik Spoelstra began his academic career at Raleigh Hills Elementary in Buffalo, New York before moving to Portland, Oregon during the late nineteen seventies.
While attending Raleigh Hills Elementary and Whitford Jr. High School in Portland, he made a name for himself as an outstanding point guard on the basketball team at Jesuit High School Beaverton, Oregon.
Spoelstra had several offers for basketball scholarships, but ultimately chose to attend the College of Portland, his home university.
In 1989 he earned himself the West Coast Conference (WCC) freshman of the month title.
Over four seasons as a Pilots guard, Spoelstra averaged 9.2 points, 4.4 assists, and two.4 rebounds per game.
Profession in Teaching
Outside the USA, Spoelstra began his teaching career in basketball.
In 1993 he spent two years as a player-assistant coach for TuS Herten – a German professional basketball team based in Westphalia – before being extended a second two year contract offer by TuS Herten; additionally he was given an NBA job opportunity by Miami Warmth the following year.
Spoelstra was chosen as the new head coach of the Miami Warmth in April 2008 after Pat Riley announced his resignation.
Despite having both offers compelling, he chose to take their place. In his first season as head coach, Spoelstra led his team to the NBA Playoffs despite an earlier 15-67 league-worst record.
Under Spoelstra’s leadership, the Warmth reached the 2011 NBA Finals but were upset by Dallas Mavericks in six games. Despite this setback, his season continued on as expected by team management who continued to back him.
With Spoelstra leading the charge forward, prospects appeared bright for this promising initiative; he even served as head coach of 2013 Jap Convention All-Stars during their 2013 All-Star recreation when his squad had one of the best records within their conference at that time. Later that same year, they went on a 27-game winning streak!
On September 29, 2013, the Warmth extended Spoelstra’s contract for an unknown number of years. He expected a compensation boost and expanded role within the front office, though exact details have been kept private.
With his guidance of the Warmth to four consecutive NBA Finals, Spoelstra became one of basketball’s all-time great coaches; passing Riley as one of their most successful head coaches on December 16th 2017 when they earned their 455th victory together.
Spoelstra was named the NBCA Co-Coach of the Month after leading Miami to a 30-win record in their final 41 games.
During the 2019-20 NBA season, Spoelstra led his team back to the championship series where they were defeated 4-2 by Los Angeles Lakers.
On April 28, 2021, Spoelstra earned his 600th victory – becoming only the sixth NBA head coach to accomplish that milestone with one group. On February 6, 2022 he was chosen as Japan’s head coach for the NBA All-Star Recreation.
