Ellen Barkin career

She garnered positive reviews for her breakthrough performance in the comedy-drama Diner (1982), written and directed by Barry Levinson.

Despite her inexperience and Bruce Beresford’s unfamiliarity with her work, Barkin persuaded him to give her a role in the drama movie Tender Mercies (1983) during an audition in New York City.

She adds a genuine authenticity to that part, plus she was young, gorgeous, and had a certain feeling of edge, a danger about her that was excellent for that part, according to Robert Duvall, who played the lead role in Tender Mercies.

She also made an appearance in the rock and roll drama Eddie and the Cruisers from 1983.

Later, Barkin starred alongside Dennis Quaid and Al Pacino in several popular movies, including the suspenseful The Big Easy (1987) and Sea of Love (1989).

As one of Susan Sarandon’s roommates in the play Extremities, about an intended rape victim who turns the tables on her attacker, Barkin has had appearances in off-Broadway productions.

The following is what The New York Times critic Frank Rich had to say about her performance in the play Eden Court: “Actress Ellen Barkin would be the one to revive a corpse if it were actually possible to do so.

Miss Barkin is enticingly alive in Eden Court, the stale play that brought her to the Promenade Theater, from her bouncing blonde ponytail to the long legs that gyrate wildly and uncontrollably whenever an Elvis Presley record is played on stage “.
