Who is Brent Renaud & how did He Die in Ukraine?: According to Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, Brent Renaud, an award-winning American filmmaker and journalist was assassinated in Ukraine on Sunday while reporting in a suburb of the capital, Kyiv.

Mr. Renaud, 50, had previously worked for HBO, NBC, and The New York Times, among other news and media institutions in the United States.

According to Ukrainian authorities, he was killed in Irpin, a neighborhood that has been the target of Russian shelling in recent days.

Still, the circumstances of his death were not immediately clear. Another journalist was also injured, according to Ukrainian officials.

Brent Renaudis an American Journalist who is died in Ukraine. According to a statement from Time management, Mr. Renaud was working on a “production focusing on the global refugee situation” for Time Studios at the time of his death.

Mr. Renaud “paid with his life for attempting to expose the aggressor’s insidiousness, cruelty, and ruthlessness,” according to Anton Gerashchenko, an assistant to Ukraine’s interior ministry.

How did Brent die in Ukraine?

Mr. Renaud had previously contributed to The Times, most recently in 2015, but he was not working for the company in Ukraine at the time.

He was discovered wearing a Times press badge granted for an assignment years ago, prompting early rumors that he worked for The Times in Ukraine.

“We are heartbroken to learn of Brent Renaud’s passing,” said Danielle Rhoades Ha, a Times spokesperson. “Brent was a gifted director.

Mr. Renaud frequently collaborated with his brother, Craig Renaud, and received a Peabody Award for a Vice News documentary about a Chicago school.

They’ve collaborated on film and television productions in war zones and hotspots worldwide.

According to their website, the brothers have covered the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Haiti earthquake, cartel violence in Mexico, and young refugees in Central America over the last ten years.

Brent Renaud wife & early career

From 2018 to 2019, Mr. Renaud was a fellow at Harvard University’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism. Pray for his family and wife.

Mr. Renaud “was creative and gentle, and his work was imbued with humanity,” said Ann Marie Lipinski, curator of the Nieman Foundation, on Twitter on Sunday.

“The world and journalism are less for it,” she remarked, lamenting his passing.

Juan Arredondo, Mr. Renaud’s shooting reporting partner, was a Nieman fellow in the 2019 class.

Mr. Arredondo described the shooting from a hospital bed in a video broadcast on the Okhmatdyt hospital’s Instagram page.

They were shot in a car after passing through a checkpoint on their way to photograph civilians fleeing the violence, he added.
