The IMO or The International Maritime Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for taking measures to improve the safety and security of international shipping and to prevent marine pollution from ships. 

The IMO sets standards for the safety and security of international shipping. It is overseeing every aspect of worldwide shipping regulations that are including some legal issues and shipping efficiency. 

 The History of IMO or International Maritime Organization  

 The IMO was started by means of a rule which was adopted in Geneva in the year 1948. It is entered into force in the year 1958 and first met in the year 1959. This IMO is based in the United Kingdom and IMO has 173 member states as of the year September 2019.

It also has a Non-Governmental Organizations IGO as the representatives. The organization among which have been integral to the policy developments at the International Maritime Organization the United States of Coast Guard. 

Beyond shipping, international Maritime Organizations are also known as soul marketing organizations. This organization works with insurance firms to market their products. The duties of an International Maritime Organization can include other marketing tasks, like distribution.

The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from the Ships. These are also some of the important International Maritime Organization agreement countries. 

Special Considerations on The International Maritime Organization 

This is important to note that theInternational Maritime Organization does not enforce the policy, in any way. The International Maritime Organization was created to adopting the policy, but not forcing it. When the governments accept the international Maritime Organization convention, then it agrees to make those policies in the national law and to start those laws.

The International Maritime Organization did develop an audit program that made audits to gets, effective as in the year January 2016. However, there are no challenges that are available to the United Nation if the country is not enforcing the policies which are set by the International Maritime Organisation. Instead, the International Maritime Organisation has provides feedback and advice on a country’s recent performance.

They are making compromises on safety, security, and environmental performance. This approach is also encouraged for innovation and efficiency.
