The chief executive of Kolkata Knight Riders has said the franchise would name a replacement for them to injure pace bowler Mitchell Starc on April 2.
Venky Mysore says he was not worrying about Starc pulling out of the tournament at late notice and expressing confidence in the 36-year-old Mitchell Johnson’s ability to lead the KKR’s attack in his compatriot’s absence.
Starc, who is selling for almost $1.5m in the IPL auction to the Knight Riders, suffering a tibial bone stress fracture in his right leg in the building up to Australia’s fourth Test against the South Africa in Johannesburg.

“We are not yet ready to announce Starc’s replacement. The Protocol demands that the IPL is declaring it first.
“We have an excellent option in the Mitchell Johnson. He has played more IPLs and won the two championships when he has played for a team, and he is an outstanding player.
“He is bowling well in the Big Bash, he is still fit, and bowling 145kph plus. He is an experiencing campaigner; I don’t think we won’t miss Starc initially, but we need the backup.”
Mysore is adding that the Board of the Control for Cricket in India has clear Sunil Narine to play in the Indian Premier League after his bowling action is reporting during the recently-concluding Pakistan Super League Twenty20 tournament.
“I have some terrific conversation with the IPL; there is absolutely no issue with the Sunil. He joins the side. It is business as usual. No worries there,” he says.
The KKR chief executive also says that he is expecting Australia opener, Chris Lynn, to recovering from the shoulder injury in time to play in the season opener against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 8.
