Indian Cricket captain Virat Kohli and his team are not sure of playing a day-night Test against the West Indies this month of October. According to the BCCI sources, Kohli has to discuss the issue with a coach Ravi Shastri and is initiate more discussions with the Committee of the Administrators which is letting through the Vinod Rai before the IPL opening ceremony in Mumbai on April 7.

It was also Rai’s primary concern when he was proposing that the cricketers should be consulting before the day-night Test that is giving the go-ahead.

The Sources are indicating that Ravi Shastri has given his consent to play a day-night Test in writing to Choudhary, but it is giving to understand that Virat Kohli is not sure how many sessions should go under the lights. The general day-night Test has more than a meeting under the floodlights, and Shastri has suggested that at least one course is playing under the lights.

Furthermore, there is a concern that if India agrees to play day-night Test against the Windies, Australia which is also tempting to stage a day-night. The Test involving India and Australia at the end of the year and that Cricket Australia is asking for more than one session under the lights.

The idea of more than one session under lights is something the Indian team may not agree to as Virat Kohli who did not want to risk a day-night Test Match Down Under without proper practice.

“Initially, even Virat Kohli was not sure about the long-term effect of playing day-night Test without having a proper trial of it. But now, both Kohli and Shastri agree that India should not rush into a day-night Test as yet,” a source says while adding that India would eventually play a day-night game but only once the team feels convincing.

The Cricket Board Team Management is leaving nothing unturning to ensuring the team is ready for the big tour of Australia at the end of the year. Rai, in his email, has said that the proposal to host the day-night Test should be put on hold till the detail discussions which are held, including with the players. He also talks about the body clock of the players.

He also writes that with the Hyderabad and Rajkot are talking on venues to host two Tests against the West Indies; there is a concern about how the spectators are returning home after day’s play and who is going to foot the extra bills for extending security in a stadium.

The CoA is the view that a day-night Test match is destined to happen, it should stage in the big cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Delhi, where the stadiums are building in the heart of the town, from where the spectators at least access the public transport to get back home.

Every decision must made in consultation with the players. Because if the performance is not up to the mark, they are the ones who are facing the music.

Rai has also raised the issue with the BCCI office-bearers of consulting the guest team for playing a day-night Test and also expressing his interest to ask the players, whose body clock will have to be accustomed to the new timing.

It is also revealing that CoA wants to stop this practice of the board officials who are taking calls like these without consulting the players. There are also accusations against cricketer Virat Kohli that he is venturing into an issue which is relating to a policy decision on how to run the BCCI like having a more significant say in the Future Tour Programme on behalf of the BCCI.

But CoA is not ready to take this argument seriously because cricket is for the cricketers and they should have a say in the cricketing matters.
