India to Continue Cambridge Analytical Probe Despite of Closure Announcement: The Indian government will continue with its inquiry into the Cambridge analytics data leak issue, irrespective of the British firm announcing the closure of business, senior IT Ministry officials said on Thursday.

The UK-based data analytics and the political consulting firm have under the fire in different countries for alleges harvesting data from almost 87 million. Facebook users and leveraging them for the political campaigns.

Indian government too has shot off notices to both Facebook and Cambridge analytic, confronting them with the questions in data breach issue. The last date for two companies to responding is the month of May 10.

On Wednesday however, Cambridge analytics announcing its closure in a statement on its website and claiming it has vilified for activities that are legal and considered a standard component of online advertising.

Indian officials familiar with the questioning and notices sent in the data leak matter says the ongoing probe will continue as the liability of the company existing before the closure announcement.

They, however, declining to divulge further details in the matter, saying that both Facebook and Cambridge Analytica have time till May 10 to send written responses to official questioning.

In a new notice sending to Cambridge Analytica last month, the government asking what kind of data is collecting in India and the research instruments use to captures such data.

It is also asking whether the company is harvesting any data through third-party apps and whether or not mining of such data is doing with the user consent.

Quizzing the British firm on the non-disclosure pacts signed by the company with its associates and clients for Indian assignments, the government also asking it to share the templates that are using in signing such agreements.

The latest notice by the government has also flagged the cryptic and evasive reply given by Cambridge Analytical to the first notice.

On the other hand, notice to Facebook has taken note of the US social networking company’s candid admission of unauthorizing use of its user data by Cambridge Analytical.

Facebook is asking to list out the security architecture proposing to create, so that data concerning Indians is not stealing or manipulating again for extraneous purposes including to influence the elections.

Facebook has previously admitted that nearly 5.62 lakh people in India were potentially affecting the data breach incident, Cambridge analytic has claimed that it does not have any Facebook data on Indian citizens.

The British firm yesterday says it is shutting down and cited a sharp drop in the business behind its decision.

In the statement, Cambridge Analytical says, Over the past several months, Cambridge analytics has the subject of numerous unfounded accusations and despite the Company’s efforts to correcting the record has vilified for activities is not only Legal.

But it is also widely accepting as a standard component of online advertising in both the political and commercial arenas.
